writer definition - humor

Writ•er /’raitər/ —noun 1. a peculiar organism capable of transforming caffeine into books. ~unkown

This little quote puts a smile on my face for many reasons. First of all, the phrase “a peculiar organism” makes me laugh, but it rings true—especially as I find myself torn between returning to my magical world or plotting my next murder. Now, how many people can say that with a straight face and no fear of committal or arrest…only a writer, right?

Second, “caffeine.” My overworked coffee pot and my rose beds full of coffee grounds can attest to my caffeine consumption. Sometimes, I switch it up in the afternoons and evenings and enjoy a lovely cup of tea, preferably Earl Grey. The scent of Bergamot oil with a hint of honey wafting through the house is wonderful and calming.

Third, “capable of transforming.” Ah, now here’s the creative part. “There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they’ll take you.” This Beatrix Potter quote expresses the feeling so eloquently. It is my favorite quotation. Writing is a thrill. An escape into a world of your creation, manipulating words and language to bring across ideas and emotions to take a reader on a fully immersed journey of your design.

Whether you write for yourself, your family and friends, or aspire to be a traditionally published author, I wish you the best on your adventure as a writer.
